National Curriculum

Our Curriculum

At St. Michael’s C.E. (VC) Primary School, we are committed to raising standards through quality teaching and learning.

We deliver a broad and balanced curriculum in line with the requirements of the National Curriculum which is planned to inspire, excite and meet the needs of all pupils. We do this through our ‘Skills Based Curriculum’ which is a framework for broad and relevant experiences which ensure progression and continuity in children’s learning from Early Years to the end of Year 4.

Teachers plan and teach together in year group teams.

In the Early Years activities are structured around Prime and Specific Areas of development:

Prime Areas

  • Personal, Social & Emotional Development
  • Physical Development
  • Communication & Language

Specific Areas

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts & Design
